Purvis, MS – 15th Circuit Court District Attorney Hal Kittrell announces that today Phillip Don Lawson, age 41, of Purvis, Mississippi, was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Anthony Mozingo to two terms of fifteen (15) years and one term of thirty (30) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The 15 year sentences are to run concurrent with each other and consecutive to the 30 year sentence.
Lawson was found guilty by a Lamar County Jury of two counts of Child Molestation and one count of Statutory Rape on May 3, 2018. The case was tried by Assistant District Attorneys Laurel Brinkley and Lauren Harless. District Attorney Hal Kittrell states that “In essence, Lawson will serve 45 years in prison, day for day, with no possibility for early release. He deserves every minute of this sentence for not only taking the innocence of a child, but for abusing the trust of a child who was entrusted to his care as a family member.
