Poplarville, MS – 15th Circuit Court District Attorney Hal Kittrell announces that on March 10, 2017, Larry Richard Carver, a Pearl River County, MS man, was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to first degree murder for the shooting of Mark Johnson, Jr., a Slidell, LA man, seven times to death with a .22 caliber rifle.
On October 29, 2016, the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a shooting at 35 Davis Dawsey Road where the victim, identified as Mark Johnson, Jr., was deceased on scene with multiple gunshot wounds. Upon further investigation by Detectives from the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department, Larry Richard Carver was developed as a suspect. Witnesses to this event gave Detectives information to law enforcement that Larry Richard Carver shot the victim five times in his vehicle. The victim was still moving on the ground and at that point Carver shot Mark Johnson, Jr., two more times in the head. Carver later confessed to the crime. Chief Detective Marc Ogden stated that “In my years of law enforcement this was the most cold blooded killing I have ever seen.”
