Purvis, MS   15th Circuit Court District Attorney Hal Kittrell announces that on March 19, 2015, Jamie Cartell Payne, 25, of Natchez, Mississippi, was found guilty by a Lamar County Jury of Robbery. The case was tried by Assistant District Attorneys Lauren Barnes Harless and Doug Miller.  Payne will be sentenced on March 25, 2015 by Judge Anthony Mozingo and faces a maximum penalty of fifteen (15) years in prison.  District Attorney Hal Kittrell states, “This defendant robbed an eighty-three year old lady of her purse in front of Ross Dress for Less Clothing store. In the course of taking her purse, he knocked her to the ground causing lacerations to her body and breaking her collar bone. This all occurred during the daytime. Without the cooperation of the victim and the eye-witnesses to this crime, we could not have prosecuted this case. Criminals need to know that we will not tolerate these crimes in Lamar County. We hope this verdict sends a message to criminals that we will prosecute these crimes and we will be pushing for a maximum sentence in this case.”
