Picayune, Mississippi. Fifteenth Circuit Court District Attorney Hal Kittrell announces that Walter Dewayne Sanford, 52, of Carriere, Mississippi was sentenced today on the charge of DUI Manslaughter for his conviction before a jury on January 20, 2017. Sanford was sentenced to serve the maximum sentence of twenty-five (25) years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Sanford was sentenced by Judge Claiborne McDonald, IV.

Kittrell says, “On November 20, 2014, Walter Sanford was driving under the influence on Interstate 59 when he struck another vehicle, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway. Fortunately the driver of the vehicle he hit was not seriously injured. Unfortunately, Teresa Spiers, a passenger with Mr. Sanford was killed in the wreck. The judge noted that this was at least Walter Sanford’s fifth (5th) DUI conviction. ”
